Youth Programs

Each year Rotary clubs can participate in a number of Youth Programs designed to enhance young lives. Below is a selection of programs that we hope young people on the Coffs Coast and within our Rotary District might want to be involved in:

RYMARINE – ROTARY YOUTH MARINE EXPERIENCE
The Rotary Club of Coffs Harbour Daybreak inc. hold an annual Marine Careers Program in October for years 9, 10 and 11 students who are interested in marine studies and marine careers. https://www.coffsharbourdaybreak.org/project/rymarine-2017

DOROTHEA MACKELLAR MEMORIAL POETRY COMPETITION
The Dorothea MacKellar Memorial Poetry Competition recognises Mackellar’s contribution to Australian literature. The aim of the competition is to capture the imagination of every student in Australia, inspiring him or her with a passion for poetry.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS ASSEMBLY (MUNA)
An assembly, which simulates the workings of the United Nations The aim of MUNA is to build bridges of goodwill for world peace and understanding in the minds of youth as they research, debate and speak to a wide range of contemporary world issues.

NATIONAL YOUTH SCIENCE FORUM (NYSF)
The promotion, selection and briefing of talented Year 11 students from the district to attend the two-week national science program. The program provides a unique experience for some 280 of Australia’s best students who are interested in science.

PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION
The aim of this competition is to broaden the year 11 student’s public speaking experience. The speaking topic is of the competitor’s own choice but must relate to one or more of the principles in the Rotary 4-way test.

ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD (RYLA)
A one-week residential seminar for young people aged between 18 and 24 years. Awardees study and discuss a wide and balanced range of topics to develop leadership, good citizenship, self- confidence, dignity and self-respect. http://www.ryla9650.org.au

YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM (YEP) – LONG TERM
As a Rotary Youth Exchange student, you’ll spend a year living with host families and attending school in a country other than your own. You’ll learn a new way of living, maybe even a new language, and a great deal about yourself. http://www.rotaryyouthexchange9650.com.au
